z/IRIS enables mainframe observability in APM software so that mainframe-backed  DevOps teams can manage and restore services that depend on mainframe technology more effectively.

Mainframe observability is achieved by creating mainframe APM traces from performance data (SMF records) near real-time, and sending the traces to preconfigured APM servers (on-premise, SaaS and public cloud hosts). Mainframe traces can be viewed and analyzed alongside all business application traces using interfaces your DevOps teams use every day.

SMF records are streamed and stored using Apache Kafka for elastic, secure and scalable streaming that will meet large enterprise monitoring availability requirements.

z/IRIS also streams mainframe metrics for open-source monitoring (e.g. Grafana) to time series databases like InfluxDB.
